Hand2Hand

Hand2Hand 501©(3) delivers hope to hungry children, ages 3-18, by mobilizing schools, churches, businesses, and individuals to provide nutritious food over the weekends. The weekend is one of the most vulnerable times for a child who is facing hunger. Our prayer is that Hand2Hand will empower students to excel in school and break the cycle of poverty through education.

How We Do It

Hand2Hand partners a local school with a local church to provide food for children identified to be at risk of going without food over the weekends. Backpacks are provided confidentially to each school at the end of the week. The food provided is intended to alleviate hunger for one child over the weekend. The backpack is an assortment of breakfast, snacks, and items for lunch or dinner, often with a recipe card.

Hand2Hand in Muskegon County

58% of Muskegon County children receive free and reduced lunch. Hand2Hand serves early childhood education through high school kids on the 68 hour weekend gap. The food is placed directly in the kids hands through school lockers.

How is Temple Involved?

We serve 64 Head Start and pre-school children weekly at Edgewood Elementary School, in addition to 10-15 Pathfinder youth. Temple partners with Arnold Glass, a local business in the community, to deliver meals to school. We are also looking to partner with local churches to help with food donations and/or expansion to middle and senior high school sites in Muskegon Heights.
